Copa Airlines supports Panamanian Soccer team headed to World Cup

Copa Airlines, the Panamanian Football Federation (FEPAFUT) and many popular Panamanian recording artists presented “Sube la Marea,” (“The Tide Rises”) a new tribute song for the Panama National Football team that will participate for the first time in a Soccer World Cup. This important achievement in athletics symbolizes a dream come true for all Panamanians, who through this song will emanate the hope, pride and passion they feel for ‘La Sele’ and its historic participation on world soccer’s most important stage.

The song “Sube la Marea,” which represents 14 years of Copa Airlines’ uninterrupted support for the Panamanian National Football team, was created by Los Gaitanes and had the collaboration of famed Panamanian artists Rubén Blades, Omar Alfanno, Erika Ender, Los Gaitanes, Los Rabanes, Samy and Sandra Sandoval, Osvaldo Ayala, Nando Boom, Kafu Banton, Lilo Sánchez, Alejandro Duncan, Idania Dowman and Ingrid de Ycaza.

“We are living a historic moment. We are all very proud to wear the Panama shirt in our first World Cup with the strong hope of being a fierce competitor against the best teams in the world. Therefore, we present this song full of emotion and passion, which will go down in history as the anthem of the invaluable achievement of these players, who united an entire country,” commented Marco Ocando, Copa Airlines’ Senior Director of Marketing and E-Business.

Recorded in New York and at the Dreams Factory studio in Panama, “Sube la Marea” is an original soundtrack by Los Gaitanes, in which Ricardo, Alberto and his son Alberto Gaitán joined their voices with those of other flagship artists of the country during four days of recording. As in every “La Sele” game, dedication and teamwork resulted in a memorable piece of music that will remind listeners that through teamwork it is possible to overcome barriers and fulfill dreams that once seemed unattainable.

Alberto Gaitán, composer and collaborator of this song, said that “participating in this project has been very big for us, as this song represents our country and honors the national team in a historic moment. Producing and composing this song shows the caliber of teamwork that we Panamanians are capable of and that we hope will continue to be evident in our national team.”
