NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises kicks off second year of Telemundo Academy

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises announced it kicked off the second year of Telemundo Academy, a multimedia academic program for students interested in pursuing careers in the media industry, with a Leadership Lecture by world-renowned television host, global philanthropist and community champion Don Francisco. Supported by “El Poder En Ti” (The Power in You), the company’s award-winning corporate social responsibility initiative, Telemundo Academy offers students a complete curricular hands-on experience detailing the processes and elements of creating an original production.

“A foundation in education can be life-changing for young students and allows them to gain the tools and confidence they need to recognize their potential is limitless and their futures are bright,” said Don Francisco.  “Telemundo Academy opens the door to what’s possible for these students, regardless of background, and ignites their passion for opportunities in the media industry.”

Through a series of dynamic lectures taking place at the world-class, multiplatform production facility, Telemundo Center, students will receive the opportunity to immerse themselves in the media world through a project-based curriculum where students work in groups to learn about the various phases of a tv network production process leveraging cutting-edge technology. Telemundo Academy and its curriculum creates a strong connection for students with education and training, resulting in stronger career pathways and better prepared students entering a modern day, diverse workforce.

Telemundo Academy was launched last year as the company’s initiative to provide training and inspire the next generation of media leaders.  Education partners include local Miami charter schools SLAM Miami, founded by entrepreneur and music superstar Armando Christian Perez’s (Pitbull) and Doral Academy. Most recently, Telemundo Academy students were invited to participate in a taping of Telemundo’s hit new musical competition series, La Voz, the Spanish-language version of the Emmy award-winning NBC hit show ‘The Voice’, which included an opportunity for three student singers to go backstage and meet their favorite La Voz coaches.

Students were chosen to enroll in Telemundo Academy’s semester-long program. The educational curriculum includes a diverse range of subjects related to media production including Digital and Social Media, Production Elements, Research, and The Power of Storytelling. As part of the program, students will be split into teams and, together, develop an original 60-90 second-long production that promotes a Telemundo program/show.  Teams will present their campaign videos to members of Telemundo’s leadership, and the winning team will be selected as the Best Campaign. The winners will be recognized in a feature across Telemundo’s “El Poder En Ti” owned platforms.
