Accent Media Launches Government Initiative.

Accent Media has launched a new initiative to help government agencies reach Hispanics with effective and culturally sensitive messages. Accent Media has produced radio and video for non-profit and international organizations, achieving strong audience responses, and winning more than forty awards. Now, the company has expanded its offerings to the government.

For Medicaid, Accent produced and distributed three bi-lingual public service announcements to help families realize that “You Don’t Have to Be On Welfare to Get Medicaid.” And writer / Producer Cecilia Domeyko is just completing two documentaries (English and Spanish) for the Health Care Financing Administration called “It’s In Your Hands.” These moving programs are about women of child-bearing age who test HIV positive, the choices they face, and the importance for all women of child-bearing age to be tested.

“Spanish-language campaigns have not always been culturally appropriate or adequately funded,” says Vice President Dr. Jack Jorgens. “We think our recent contract awards from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Education will give us the opportunity to set a new standard for national bi-lingual campaigns.”

Accent’s documentaries for the World Bank and USAID on Educational reform in Uganda and Chile have aired in Spanish, English, and French in 96 countries. And the company has just completed an hour-long educational program on funding the arts. Shot in Cuba and sponsored by the Ford Foundation, the program promises to help Latin American countries encourage corporate and nonprofit support for the arts.

Accent has also carried out national educational campaigns such as Video News Releases for AARP on topics like health, consumer fraud, and medical benefits. The company is perhaps best known for its dramatic PSAs for the Catholic Church’s “La Familia Unida” campaign which have brought sensitive issues like child abuse, AIDS, and violence to the consciousness of Hispanics over the past four years. The spots have aired on more than five hundred Spanish radio stations and sixty
Spanish TV stations nationwide.

“People like good stories,” said Accent President and Senior Producer Cecilia Domeyko. “Strong emotions make audiences remember information and encourage them to change their behavior.” Other Accent PSAs have included Celia Cruz on Diabetes and Eye Disease, and Rita Moreno on “Know Your Rights” for the American Bar Association.
