Mayfield Dairy Farms’ Ensalada de Fruta Es Grande!

America’s tastes are changing — integrating new flavors to reflect a more multi-cultural and cuisine-literate population — and Mayfield Dairy Farms is stepping to the plate to meet consumer demand. This Spring, Mayfield will join the ranks of food industry front runners by introducing the unique Ensalada de Fruta Ice Cream, designed to meet the taste demands of the fastest growing market segment in the United States.

Ensalada de Fruta, which is Spanish for fruit salad, marks Mayfield’s first attempt to create a flavor especially for Hispanic consumers. The unique combination of honeydew flavored ice cream with a strawberry swirl and bits of peaches should be especially popular with the growing Hispanic population. Another Mayfield flavor called Caramel Coyote proved to be very popular among Hispanics, and that caused company officials to take a close look at offering more products to the special preferences of Hispanics. Statistics show that caramel and fruit flavors are favorites among Hispanic American consumers.

“Ensalada de Fruta is the perfect solution to the numerous consumer requests for more fruit flavors in the Mayfield line,” said Scottie Mayfield, President of Mayfield Dairy Farms. “And the flavor should also meet the taste demands of the growing Hispanic market.”

The popularity of fruit flavors in general, is on the upswing. According to statistics reported by The Food Institute, consumption of exotic and tropical fruits is definitely on the rise in the United States. During the past several years, tropical fruits have attained trend status as flavoring agents for a myriad of foods ranging from juice blends to sodas and yogurts. It seems the tastes of the ever-growing ethnic population in the United States are affecting the overall flavor preferences of all Americans. As reported in News & Analysis Consumer Trends, “the new millennium is just seeing the tip of the iceberg for mass-market Latino-based food products and flavors.”

The Spanish packaging is also a first for Mayfield. A survey conducted by the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) showed that, even though the majority of Hispanics speak English, many like to see Spanish labels and signage in grocery stores.
