Medina Elected Chairman Of Florida’s First Digital Divide Council.

Manuel D. Medina, Chairman and CEO of Terremark Worldwide, Inc. has been elected Chairman of the State of Florida’s newly created Digital Divide Council. The election took place during the first meeting of the Council in Tallahassee on September 10, 2001. As Chairman of the NAP of the Americas, Medina is designated by state statute to serve on the Digital Divide Council.

The Digital Divide Council was created by Senate Bill 1672 to ensure that the citizens of the State of Florida have the opportunities to access the use of information technology and to obtain the education and training necessary to acquire knowledge critical to becoming competitively qualified for high-skill, high-wage employment. The Council will address the importance of access, training, and resources to information technology, the digital divide, and its impact on all Floridians.

“It is an honor for me to serve as the first Chairman of the Digital Divide Council,” Medina said. “Our State is uniquely positioned to profoundly impact those that are at a disadvantage because of the lack of access to technology in today’s information-based society. Florida is widely recognized as the 5th technology hub in the world because of the rapid growth in our State, our infrastructure and our proximity to the burgeoning telecommunications market in Latin America. Every citizen in the State of Florida should have the opportunity to `log on’ to our resources and the Digital Divide Council is committed to making it happen.”
