Roger Gonzales – Publisher of Mira Magazine.

Roger Gonzalez, formerly the GM of Sales and Marketing at el diario/La Prensa, has been named publisher of MIRA magazine. Gonzalez leaves el diario after just one year with el diario, but was instrumental in increasing ad sales at the daily by over 10% and for creating and restructuring its marketing and promotions departments.

He will head the seven month entertainment weekly starting Monday, March 5th and will report directly to Bette Rockmore, who heads up all ad sales for the American Media Inc. titles and reports directly to CEO David Pecker. American Media Inc., publishers of The National Enquirer, Star and other weekly tabloids has recently made the jump into the Hispanic marketplace with the 200,000 circ MIRA, launched nationally in June of 2000.

“This is a company that clearly has a long term committment to our market, and the opportunity to be a part of that growth is very exciting and challenging,” said Gonzalez. “And with someone like David Pecker to helm the expansion, it can’t help but be successful. Best of all, the product is sharp, a great read, and growing popular with both readers and advertisers alike everyday.”

Gonzalez left el diario once before in 1998 to help with another newly lauched title, Time Out New York, as ad director. There he saw circulation double in two years while ad revenues tripled. Sami Haiman and Michelle Cortes, both from People En Espanol, will report directly to Gonzalez on the sales end.
