Zoom Media Group Names New CEO.

Zoom Media Group (ZMG) announced Maria Garana would become the company’s new CEO effective immediately.

Garana, named as one of Mexico’s top young business executives by Expansion magazine, was formerly CFO and VP of Business Development of Todito.com, TV Azteca’s top rated and profitable US Hispanic Portal. “We are absolutely delighted,” commented Isaac Lee, Chairman of Zoom Media Group, “we believe that we just landed the best CEO in the market.”

Under Garana’s stewardship, and contrary to trends for many online ventures, Todito.com’s revenue base increased by over 160% from July 2000 to July 2001. In addition, Garana was instrumental in helping the company achieve positive cash flow status after only eighteen months in business and was responsible for closing critical deals with Compaq, Dataflux and many others.

“I am incredibly enthusiastic about Zoom Media’s potential,” added Garana, “I think, given our market position and editorial abilities, that we have the potential to rise up out of this down market as the dominant, independent pan-regional magazine company in Latin America.” Prior to joining Todito, Garana, a graduate of Harvard Business School, worked for Bain and Company in Mexico, where she was a primary consultant to many of Mexico’s top companies. In addition, she has worked for Merrill Lynch in London, and Andersen Consulting and Citibank in Madrid Spain. She has a B.S. in business administration and a B.A. in Law from the University of San Pablo in Madrid.
