Verizon & Lanza Group, LLC expand HABLA Awards.

The annual Hispanic Achievement & Business Leadership Awards (HABLA) luncheon presented by Verizon and produced by Lanza Group, LLC will expand in 2012. Charlotte, NC and Orlando, FL have been selected in addition to HABLA’s established home market of Atlanta, GA to highlight each cities successful & growing Hispanic business & civic communities. As in past years, the 2012 HABLA Awards will recognize the accomplishments of Latinos in the following four (4) categories as nominated by the community at large: corporate executive, civic-government, entrepreneur and unsung hero.

HABLA through the generous contribution of Verizon will award three (3) $5,000 scholarships, one each in Orlando, Charlotte and Atlanta. Scholarships in each market will be awarded to a deserving high school senior entering college in the fall of 2013 or currently attending college as a freshman. Through this scholastic scholarship competition Verizon and HABLA hope to encourage the next generation of rising business and community leaders. Scholarship nominations are currently available at www.HABLAawards.com and must be received prior to 11:59pm EDT Sunday September 16th, 2012.

HABLA Awards luncheons will take place as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations on:

Wednesday, October 3rd in Orlando, FL

Tuesday, October 9th in Charlotte, NC

Thursday, October 11th in Atlanta, FL

Verizon has been a proud presenter of HABLA in Atlanta since its inception in 2008. “We are thrilled to expand HABLA under the Verizon Latino Business Series to include Charlotte and Orlando markets, two rapidly growing markets,” said Leroy Williams, area vice president-Marketing. “ In addition to Verizon’s commitment to business, we are proud to expand and enhance the HABLA scholarship to a deserving student.”

The HABLA awards will be given based on nominations made by peers and members of the Atlanta, Charlotte and Orlando business and civic communities. HABLA serves as the closing ceremony to Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations and highlights the accomplishments of Latino role models and provides them with the recognition they merit.
