General Motors Teams-Up With Vicente & Alejandro Fernandez 2001 Western U.S. Concert Tour.

General Motors (GM) announced a partnership with the “King of Mexican Music” Vicente Fernandez and his son, 2000 Latin Grammy winner Alejandro Fernandez, in an effort to raise money for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF). As title sponsor of the Fernandez’ 2001 Western U.S. tour, General Motors continues its ongoing support of HSF, with contributions nearing $1 million to date.

The “Lazos Invencibles (Invincible Ties) Tour presented by General Motors” will encompass nine concerts over eight West Coast stops beginning July 7 in San Jose, Calif., and finishing November 24 in Las Vegas. In all, four states will be visited, including Arizona, California, Colorado and Nevada.

“We are proud to continue our relationship with the Fernandez family and celebrate true icons of Mexico, its brilliant music and culture,” said Mike Colleran, manager of Hispanic marketing for GM’s Western region. “The Lazos Invencibles Tour presented by General Motors is made even more special for us in that it provides an opportunity for GM and the Fernandez family to team up for a great cause in raising money for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.”

For every ticket sold to one of the GM dates, HSF will receive a contribution of 50 cents from the Fernandez family. In addition, GM has created an interactive program at the concerts called the “Rancho Challenge” that will allow concert-goers the opportunity to help raise even more funds for HSF. With every concert-goer that takes part in the “Rancho Challenge,” General Motors will donate an additional $1 to HSF. Participants will not only be furthering a great cause, but will also be entered for a chance to win a one-of-a-kind, Alejandro Fernandez Special Edition GMC Sierra SSE truck.

To take part in the “Rancho Challenge,” concert-goers simply sign up at the GM booth and answer a few questions by walking around and viewing the various vehicles featured in the ranch-like display area. When all of the questions are completed, concert-goers can turn it in for a free gift, and also have their entry go into the sweepstakes. The gift will be a complimentary photo of the concert-goer with a cardboard, pop-up photo of Vicente or Alejandro.

All GM display signage and its on-site product specialists will be bilingual. Opening one hour before each concert, GM will display a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, the Alejandro Fernandez sweepstakes vehicle, and five 2001-model vehicles: the Chevrolet Impala LS, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra Hot Truck, GMC Yukon Denali and Pontiac Grand Am.

At select concerts, a special addition will be added to the display with the “Chevy Impala Heritage Tour.” In the tradition of lowriders, both a 2001 and a 1964 Chevrolet Impala have been customized with specialty parts, accessories, paint and more.
