Telemundo’s Leading Ladies Lead The Way To Numero Uno.

Telemundo posted unprecedented results in the recently released NSI* November 2000 reports. For the first time in its history, in key markets, Telemundo is the market ratings leader in numerous dayparts.

“Laura en América” (M-F/4-5p.m. EST), in only 11 months since its launch, has overtaken all other English and Spanish language talk shows in a number of the largest U.S. markets.

Los Angeles DMA

In Los Angeles, “Laura” (on KVEA) is the market leader in all key adult demographic categories, including a 2.5 rating in the highly desirable adult 18-49 demographic, 67% higher than its closest competitor, “Cristina,” which posted a 1.5 rating.

“Laura’s” triumph catapulted KVEA to the #1 position in Early Fringe (M-F/4-6p) among adults 18-34, adults 18-49, men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54. Among adults 18-49, KVEA out performed KABC by 32% (2.5 vs. 1.9), KNBC by 47% (2.5 vs. 1.7) and Univision by 25% (2.5 vs. 2.0). “Laura” has replaced the long-time “Queen of Talk,” Oprah, as the #1 talk show in the L.A. market, beating Oprah among women 18-34 (4.4 vs. 3.8), adults 18-34 (3.7 vs. 2.1) and adults 18-49 (2.5 vs. 2.3).

“Ocurrio Asi” (M-F/5-6p.m.), Telemundo’s award-winning news magazine, was the market leader among adults 18-49. Its men 18-49 rating was also highest in the market by a huge margin, outperforming its closest competitor, KABC, by 55% (3.1 vs. 2.0).

Miami-Ft. Lauderdale DMA

“Betty La Fea,” the most talked-about novela this season, is #1 in Miami M-F/8-9 p.m. among all key demographics, including women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, as well as men 18-49 and 25-54, and adults 18-49 and 25-54. Among adults 18-49, “Betty” achieved a 6.7 rating, outperforming Univision, its closest competitor, by 26%, and generating higher average ratings than all English-language stations M-F/8-9 p.m.

Telemundo’s “Laura” beat Univision’s “Cristina” head-to-head among women 18-34 by 10% (3.4 vs. 3.1) and Oprah by 127% (3.4 vs. 1.5), to gain the #2 ranking in the time period.

Ocurrio Asi” was the market leader among males 18-34 at 5PM garnering a 3.0 rating. WSCV tied WSVN (a Fox affiliate) for the #1 ranking in Early Fringe (M-F/4-6p.m.) among men 18-34, achieving a 2.2 rating.

New York DMA

WNJU’s “Laura” achieved ratings victories over WXTV’s “Cristina” in a number of key demos, among them women and adults 18-49 and 25-54. In Prime (M-F/8-9p.m.), WNJU was again victorious over WXTV with “Betty la Fea.”

“Betty’s” victory was not limited to its Spanish-language competitor. In the key women 18-34 demographic, its ratings performance beat WCBS by 55% (3.4 vs. 2.2) and among adults 18-34 by 25% (2.5 vs. 2.0). WNJU’s “Betty” ratings rivaled that of WWOR, both of which delivered a 2.9 rating with women 25-54.

“Laura” also achieved unprecedented victories versus Cristina in Chicago and San Francisco. Tree Communications.
