2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup @ Univision, TeleFutura & Galavisión.

Jul-05-2005

The three Univision networks will join together this month to offer live and exclusive coverage of the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, one of the world’s most prestigious and awaited international soccer championships, which will take place entirely in venues throughout the United States. The action begins on July 6 at 7:00pm ET/4:00pm PT (6:00 pm Central/ 5:00 pm. Mountain), when TeleFutura airs the kick-off match between Colombia and Panama, live from Miami. A total of 25 games will be played between July 6 and July 24, with the final championship match taking place in New York City and airing on the Univision Network.

As has been the case since the year 2000, the Univision Networks again have the exclusive rights to all Gold Cup telecasts in the U.S. Univision will air 7 live games, including quarterfinals, semifinal and final matches. TeleFutura will air 10 live games, including the kick-off game, quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Galavisión will air 8 live games. Closed-captioning in English will be available on all U.S.A. team games.

The Gold Cup tournament, established in 1991 by CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football), pits national teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean islands, plus special guest teams, against each other in a bi-yearly tournament that crowns a regional champion. This year, the competing teams are: Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, and the U.S.A. The reigning champion is Mexico, having beaten Brazil in 2003.

In addition to broadcasting all Gold Cup matches, Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión will feature tournament coverage and highlights on the three networks’ regular sports programs. Starting with a special pre-Gold Cup show this coming Sunday, July 3, Univision’s "República Deportiva" (Sundays 11am-1pm ET) will present complete rundowns on the week’s action every Sunday throughout the duration of the championship. TeleFutura’s nightly "Contacto Deportivo" (Mon-Sun 11-11:30 pm ET) will also feature Gold Cup highlights, as will Galavisión’s "La Jugada" (Mondays 9-10pm ET) and "Noticiero Todo Deportes" (Mon-Fri 12:30-12:45 am ET).
