Sep-30-2009

AARP Segunda Juventud announced it will launch a weekly Spanish-language radio show called Su Segunda Juventud on October 4, 2009.  Well-known expert on Hispanic issues and Editor of AARP Segunda Juventud, Gabriela Zabalúa-Goddard, will host this half-hour health, finance and lifestyle oriented show.

“It’s critical for us to engage the 50+ Hispanic community and deliver the information and resources that are most relevant to them, especially during the tough times our nation is facing,” said Kevin Donnellan, EVP and Chief Communications Officer for AARP.  “Through this new show, we are excited to offer a new portal to entertain and inform not only older Hispanics, but also the younger generations who can share information with their parents and grandparents about living their ‘second youth’ to the fullest.”

Su Segunda Juventud will feature tips and information from experts on a variety of topics relevant to the 50+ Hispanic community, such as finance and health tips. Zabalúa-Goddard will also interview authors, leaders, and celebrities who are at the forefront of the Hispanic community. With Hispanics 50+ making up 8.3 percent of the total 50+ U.S. population and that number expected to double by the year 2040, the show will be reaching out to a unique and growing audience.

“Through Su Segunda Juventud we hope to be a resource for Hispanics 50+, keeping our listeners up-to-date on important social issues and lifestyle trends while introducing them to fascinating people and cultural events,” said Gabriela Zabalúa-Goddard, Editor, AARP Segunda Juventud and Host of Su Segunda Juventud.

The show’s premier will cover cancer prevention tips from the Director of the Washington Hospital Center’s Cancer Institute and the first Hispanic past-president of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Elmer Huerta.  Subsequent shows will feature model programs in adult education from the Sonia Gutierrez, Founder of the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.; and leadership in the Hispanic arts with the founders of the Teatro GALA who are giving back to the Hispanic community through their theater programs.
