Carlos Obed becomes 1-800-GOT-MOLD? spokesman to the Hispanic Community.

Jul-30-2010

Retired Major League Baseball player Carlos Baerga, known as "Carlos Obed" to fans and friends, has signed on as the 1-800-GOT-MOLD? Ambassador to Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latin America, and the company's spokesman to the Hispanic community, it was announced today by Jason Earle, founder and CEO of 1-800-GOT-MOLD?.

"I love 1-800-GOT-MOLD? and what it does, because both of my children had asthma since birth and spent two or three years with a nebulizer at night," said Baerga. "I would like to help prevent other families from suffering from this unnecessarily. It affects the whole family. When one person suffers, the whole family suffers."

Indoor mold growth has been shown in medical studies to be an aggravating factor or the cause of many ailments including chronic sinus infections, asthma, allergies, and even depression. The company's focus is on residential mold detection and the health of its customers.

Signed by the San Diego Padres in 1985 when he was just 16, Baerga began his MLB career in 1990 with the Cleveland Indians, where he played second base and established his skills as a hitter. A switch-hitter, he was the first player ever - and one of only two - to have hit two home runs from opposite sides of the plate in the same inning (April 8, 1993). He was the Indians' most reliable pinch hitter.

With 1,543 hits, 134 home runs and a .292 batting average over his 15-year MLB career, the 41-year-old Baerga has been involved with more than 30 charitable organizations and is actively involved as a member of the San Jorge Children's Hospital Board of Directors and the American Cancer Society in Puerto Rico.

Since his retirement five years ago, Baerga has enjoyed prominence as a color commentator for Monday Night Baseball in Spanish on ESPN Dos for the Mexico-Caribbean-Venezuela region. He is an analyst on Beisbol Esta Noche (the Spanish version of Baseball Tonight) on ESPN Deportes and ESPN Latin America. He is heavily involved in covering the Central American and Caribbean Games, which is the equivalent of the Olympics for that part of the world.

1-800-GOT-MOLD?, a subsidiary of Mycelium Holdings LLC, is expanding nationally and beyond, offering what is considered the first home-based, royalty-free, dog-centric mold inspection businesses in the Western Hemisphere. The company's first two-week training course for new franchisees begins Aug. 9 at its Tampa base. Earlier this week, 1-800-GOT-MOLD? announced the award of its first multi-state master franchise to Michael Childers for North Carolina and South Carolina.

"We are so fortunate to have Carlos on our team," said Earle. "He is just a stand-up guy with a heart as big as the planet. We do what we do because we love helping people heal sick homes and protect their families from the ill-effects of mold and moisture problems indoors. Carlos brings the same kind of love to all the organizations he gets involved with."
