Futbol de Primera Radio announces 2018 World Cup Broadcast Team

Futbol de Primera Radio Network (FDP RADIO) will broadcast its fifth consecutive World Cup on site in Russia with a broadcast team of former soccer legends and coaches.

Led by Andrés Cantor, FDP RADIO will have as one of their play by play announcers Mariano Closs.

Closs is known to US audiences through his calls on FOX Sports Latin-America. He also calls the game of the week for Radio Continental in his native Argentina. Closs will bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise and one of the most dynamic styles in broadcasting to US Hispanic Audiences.

Jesús Eduardo Acosta, a regular play by play announcer on BeIn Sports in the US, and other mediums in Latin-America will call his first World Cup for FDP RADIO.

Also, Kevin Rodriguez one of El Salvador’s finest broadcasters will work his fourth World Cup for FDP RADIO and will also be doing play by play, as will Nico Cantor who after having called Copa America Centenario and Gold Cup matches for FDP RADIO will be calling his first World Cup.

FDP RADIO will have a World Champion coach on its roster. Carlos Bilardo, who managed Argentina to glory in 1986 and who did color commentary on FDP during Copa America Chile 2015 will again be on the booth to share his unique vision of the game

The team will be complemented by iconic soccer figures who will serve as color commentators. Carlos “Pibe” Valderrama returns for his fourth World Cup. The legendary former Colombian captain is one of the most emblematic players to have played the game. Former World Cup veteran Carlos De los Cobos will be working his second World Cup on FDP Radio. Having represented Mexico on a numerous occasions, De los Cobos became a successful coach. Eduardo “Yayo” De la Torre, the current sporting director at Mexico’s Cruz Azul returns for his third World Cup as a broadcaster. Yayo also represented “El Tri” and after retiring coached several teams in Mexico. Benjamín Galindo, one of Mexico’s finest midfielders ever will be working his second World Cup on FDP Radio. A living legend in Mexico, “el maestro” is probably one of Chivas of Guadalajara best all time players. He also coached them and other teams.

Steve Sampson, former US and Costa Rica’s National Team coach will be back for his third World Cup on FDP Radio. Steve speaks fluent Spanish and brings a ton of knowledge to the broadcasts.

Long Before the implementation of the Video Assistant referee (VAR), FDP hired in 2006 former World Cup referee Javier Castrilli to analyze each controversial call for our audience. Castrilli returns for his fourth World Cup.

And of course, FDP’s yearlong permanent team of journalists and commentators will be assigned to World Cup duties. Sammy Sadovnik, as usual, will be one of the hosts of FDP’s daily show.

Daniel Chapela will be host and analyst of the games, and so will Rosa Beatriz Sánchez who will be working her third World Cup on FDP Radio. Rosa has been a regular on FDP for the last ten years and was one of the first female commentators to work in the Hispanic space in the US.

Jaime Gallardo, as he has been for the last 12 years, will be next to the Mexican National Team for news and information and will be pitch-side in all of Mexico’s game. This will mark the first time any radio announcer will be granted a position in the field for live reporting during World Cup games.
