Thomas named VP of News at Telemundo Dallas/Ft. Worth

Telemundo 39 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXTX announced that Sandra Thomas has been named Vice President of News for the station. In this role, she will be responsible for the overall performance of the Telemundo 39 news department and any other local productions across multiple media platforms. Thomas’ first day with Telemundo 39 will be August 17.

“Sandra is a seasoned newsroom leader who for nearly three decades, has helped news teams all across the country produce and deliver news that has kept Spanish-language viewers informed all throughout the United States,” said John Trevino, President and General Manager, Telemundo 39. “Her vast experience makes her a perfect fit for our station and I’m very excited that Sandra is joining the Telemundo 39 news team and returning to Telemundo.”

Thomas joins Telemundo 39 after launching her broadcast and journalism career in 1985 and holding various newsroom positions with increasing responsibility at both the national and local level. She returns to Telemundo after working as the network’s Mexico Bureau Chief in 1993 and as the News Director for Telemundo 52 Los Angeles / KVEA from 1994 to 1997. Most recently, Thomas worked as Senior Director of Local and Affiliate News and as the Regional News Director for Northern California Stations for the Univision Station Group from 2009 to 2013. Before this, she served as the News Director for Univision Los Angles/KMEX and Univision San Francisco / KDTV for a combined 14 years. She launched her broadcast career in 1985 at Univision network, working as a news producer.

In addition to being a published author, Thomas has worked as a freelancer and television public affairs show host and reporter for various English-language news outlets and publications, including The Los Angeles Times, National Public Radio, NBC Nightly News and NBC4 Washington / WRC, among others. Thomas holds various awards, including an Emmy for producing a network special about poverty-stricken Latino children in the United States, two American Women in Radio and Television awards and a Mark Twain Associated Press Award for her reports about immigration topics.
