According to an annual study of the consumer music market in the U.S. by The NPD Group, growth in the music market can be traced to an increasing number of CD and digital download buyers, and an increase in the total amount that consumers are spending for music.

Only three months after winning his second Latin GRAMMY® in the category of “Best Traditional Tropical Album”, the great Cuban bass player and composer Israel López “Cachao” won a GRAMMY in the 54th annual edition of the most prestigious award in music. Music business association NARM and The NPD Group released findings of a joint study that examined the ways consumers discover new music. The report indicates that while music discovery is still vital to the industry, it applies differently to various consumer groups, and it has changed significantly since the organizations last studied the topic in 2007, as television and social media and other digital services have emerged as major influencers.
