Univision.com Facilitates Direct Dialog Between Mexican President Vicente Fox and U.S. Residents.

In preparation for a unique nationally televised town hall with Mexican President Vicente Fox during his first trip to the United States as President of Mexico, Univision Online, Inc.is accepting inquiries from the public — through its portal, www.univision.com — for President Fox on the issues they would like the dignitary to address during the broadcast. Some of the questions submitted to Univision.com by Thursday will be read by Univision network news anchor and program host Maria Elena Salinas directly to President Fox when he appears alongside California Governor Gray Davis on “Cara a Cara con Vicente Fox: Dos Lideres, Una Nueva Era” (“Face-to-Face with Vicente Fox: Two Leaders, A New Era”) on March 22, 2001.

The Spanish-language program, presented by Univision flagship station KMEX-TV, Channel 34, the Organization of Los Angeles Workers (OLAW) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), will air from 5-6 p.m. (PST) on all Univision California affiliates. “Cara a Cara con Vicente Fox: Dos Lideres, Una Nueva Era” will also be rebroadcast that evening at midnight throughout the United States on the Univision network and the following day on Univision’s cable channel, Galavision.

“As a front-running candidate and now as President of Mexico, Vicente Fox has seriously considered the problems of Mexican citizens both at home and beyond its borders,” said program host Maria Elena Salinas. “`Cara a Cara con Vicente Fox’ exemplifies a truly representative public dialog between the public and elected officials to address these matters, enhanced with the integration of the Internet. Univision.com will bring the audience front and center into the conversation with these two dignitaries, regardless of where in the world they may be. It’s truly an honor for me, as a native Californian of Mexican descent, to host this exceptional opportunity for U.S. television viewers.”

Internet users interested in submitting their questions for President Vicente Fox can log on to Univision.com 24 hours a day prior to Thursday’s program. Upon reaching the portal’s home page, users should type in the keyword “Foro de Mexico” in Univision.com’s “Uniclave” search window and click “ir” (“go”) after typing in the keyword. The user will then be routed to the Web site’s specially created message center for the “Cara a Cara con Vicente Fox” forum and should proceed to type in their question and submit to Univision.com upon completion. A complete transcript of Thursday’s program with President Fox and California Governor Davis will be posted on Univision.com the following day, Friday, March 23, 2001.

Accompanying Salinas for “Cara a Cara con Vicente Fox” will be Teresa Quevedo from KMEX-TV’s two-time Emmy award-winning newscast, “Noticias 34.” The town hall will allow Fox and Davis to share with the public how they plan to cooperate on matters affecting their regions and beyond including commerce, agriculture, immigration, education and the improvement of Mexico-California relations.
