Escalona named Latino Affairs Columnist Chicago Sun-Times.

The Chicago Sun-Times announced that journalist Alejandro Escalona, a veteran Chicago journalist with a special interest in covering Chicago’s Latino community, has begun writing a weekly Thursday column for the Chicago Sun-Times.

“He’ll write on local current events, especially on issues of interest to Hispanic readers. He’s fair, thoughtful and knows Chicago.”

Mr. Escalona is the former editor of Hoy Chicago, the Tribune Company’s Spanish-language daily, as well as ¡Exito!, a weekly publication of the Chicago Tribune. During his tenure, both publications won numerous awards for coverage and design.

“Alejandro’s greatest strength is that he’s a reporter first — he goes places, talks to people — before sitting down to write,” said Sun-Times Editorial Page Editor Tom McNamee. “He’ll write on local current events, especially on issues of interest to Hispanic readers. He’s fair, thoughtful and knows Chicago.”
