Ricky Martin Unplugged at MTV LatAM, MTV3s and MTV PR.

MTV announced the premiere of “Ricky Martin: MTV Unplugged” in high-definition on MTV Latin America; as well as MTV Tr3s, MTV Puerto Rico and on MTV Networks new high-definition channel in the US, MHD, on November 1, 2006 at 10pm (EST). MTV Latin America will pre-screen the acoustic performance on its broadband site, MTVRevolution.com, on October 25 at 9pm (EST). This show marks the 19th MTV Unplugged production for MTV Latin America and a first for the newly launched MTV Tr3s.

“Ricky Martin: MTV Unplugged” showcases Ricky’s strong vocal ability on classic hits such as “La Bomba”, “Maria” and “Lola Lola”. The Puerto Rican Grammy winner was joined onstage by renowned producer and composer Tommy Torres and La Mari of the Spanish electronic flamenco-chill band Chambao, to perform his new song “Tu Recuerdo”. Martin also performs new tracks including “Pegate” and “Con Tu Nombre” and fan favorites like “Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Día”, “Volverás”, “Vuelve”, “Perdido Sin Ti” and “Gracias Por Pensar en Mi”. Martin returns to his roots with this acoustic performance with an emotional version of “Asignatura Pendiente”, from his 2003 album Almas del Silencio. The UNICEF Ambassador of Goodwill also took the opportunity to dedicate the show to the children of the world who suffer from oppression, poverty and the casualties of war.

“Ricky was able to capture the intimacy of the night and at the same time was able to deliver a very powerful performance,” commented Jose Tillan Senior Vice President of Music and Talent for MTV Networks Latin America and MTVTr3s in the US. “We enjoyed creating a platform that will allow more people to experience the magic of Ricky’s live performances. Our goal was to produce a show that really showcased Ricky in a very unique manner and that was able to take fans on a musical journey through out the artist’s career.”

In October, MTV Tr3s will premiere special programming to honor the Puerto Rican artist, most recently elected “Person of the Year” by the Latin Recording Academy, including “Diary of Ricky Martin” (10/23 at 5:30pm EST), a narrated look at the day to day life of the artist, and “Videología”, a countdown of his own favorite videos hosted by the artist (10/28 at 6:00pm EST). In addition, MTV Tr3s will give viewers a behind the scenes look at the unplugged show with the special “Ricky Martin: Making of the Unplugged” immediately following the unplugged airing (11/1 at 11pm EST). The “Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged” CD/DVD compilation will be distributed internationally by Sony/BMG on November 7 and the album will be available 1 week prior to its release through the “Mercado Negro” on MTVla.com.

Charlie Singer, Executive Vice President Programming and Creative Strategy for MTV Networks Latin America executive produced and produced the show; José Tillán co-produced and supervised the musical content of the show. Manny Rodríguez (“Alejandro Sanz MTV Unplugged,” “La Ley MTV Unplugged”) served as director.
