Viscom launches BEST – Mexico Celular cards.

Viscom International Inc. announced it has created a new card specifically for U.S.-based immigrants calling cell phones in Mexico. BEST™ Mexico Celular cards are expected to be in stores across the U.S. by mid-February.

Last November, the Mexican telecommunications regulator, Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones, changed the billing structure for cell phones. Under the new structure, the party placing the long-distance call to Mexican cell phones pays for the call. The resulting increase made the cost significantly higher for all callers in the U.S. to place calls to cell phones in Mexico.

“BEST™ Mexico Celular cards will now make it affordable for U.S.-based Mexicans to call home to their friends and family with cell phones in Mexico,” said Christina Steiner, vice president of new business development. “We believe Viscom is the first company to market with a widespread release of a product that addresses the increase in fees.”

According to Steiner, callers to any phone in Mexico, including cell phones, with a BEST™ Mexico $5 phone card would have received over 2 hours of talk time before the changes in rates. Under the new Mexican regulations, callers to cell phones in Mexico with a $5 BEST™ Mexico card would now receive only 25 minutes of talk time. With the BEST™ Mexico Celular card, callers will have over an hour of talk time with a $10 card.
