Gateway & Univision To Help U.S. Hispanic Customers Get More Out Of Technology.

Gateway Inc. has announced a relationship with Univision Online, Inc., under which Univision.com’s Spanish-language Internet service and portal will be offered on all Gateway consumer desktop systems. Gateway also offers Spanish-language training, keyboards and customized software options to create a technology experience that better meets the needs of U.S. Hispanic customers.

Gateway is the fastest-growing brand of choice for Hispanic consumers according to a January 2001 report issued by Cheskin Research1.

More than 140 Gateway Country stores in major Hispanic cities across the United States feature workstations specially designed to serve Hispanic customers. The workstations include a tailored Spanish-language keyboard, Spanish-language software (Microsoft Office 2000 for Small Business, education software and MS Works Suite 2000), a Univision.com connection for demonstration, as well as Spanish-language pricing sheets and informational materials. Univision.com can be added to any Gateway consumer desktop system for an additional $100, with unlimited access for one year2.

In addition, these Gateway Country stores provide Spanish-speaking sales advisors on staff to demonstrate the systems and assist customers in the selection and personalization process. Free clinics, such as “Your First PC,” will be available in Spanish to help customers get acquainted with the basics of using a PC before they decide to buy one. Once customers are comfortable with their new PC, training courses in Spanish will be available online at www.learnatgateway.com.

“Our alliance with Univision.com is an important step in Gateway’s commitment to provide our Spanish-speaking customers with user-friendly ways to get more out of technology,” said Hector Placencia, director of ethnic marketing, Gateway. “We recently announced a grassroots initiative to demystify the PC and to help general-market consumers and businesses unlock the power of technology. By offering Univision.com as an ISP, as well as specialized training, software and equipment options, we’re extending that initiative to improve our Hispanic customers’ technology experience as well.”

“Univision.com looks forward to working with Gateway Country stores across the country to help provide the U.S. Hispanic community with easy-to-use Internet access,” said Javier Saralegui, president, Univision.com. “Through this partnership, Univision.com and Gateway have a significant opportunity to offer Hispanics special pricing on Univision.com’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) and portal with the purchase of any Gateway consumer desktop system. This represents another significant advancement in Univision.com’s desire to bridge the technology gap for Hispanics.”
