Univision Communications Inc. announced that Gustavo A. Cisneros has been appointed the Class V Director to its Board of Directors, as a representative of Venevisión. Mr. Cisneros is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Cisneros Group of Companies, one of the largest privately held media, entertainment, technology, and consumer products organizations in the world. Mr. Cisneros has replaced Alejandro Rivera, who will become the Class V Alternate Director.

Mr. Cisneros has led the growth and expansion of the Cisneros Group of Companies to include interests in companies ranging from broadcast television networks, paid television services, and interactive service providers, to beverage businesses, supermarkets chains and a baseball team. Doing business in over 100 countries with a focus on the “Ibero-American marketplace,” some of the Cisneros Group of Companies’ key holdings include: Univision Communications, Inc. (NYSE: UVN), AOL Latin America (NASDAQ: AOLA), DIRECTV Latin America, Claxson Interactive Group, Venevisión, Los Leones del Caracas, Regional Brewing Company, Backus & Johnston Brewing Company, and Pueblo International, LLC. Mr. Cisneros also sits on the Board of Directors of AOL Latin America, Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE: ABX), and Pueblo International.

Mr. Cisneros is involved in the global academic and business communities as a charter member of the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Task Force, various corporate advisory boards, and as a board member, trustee or advisor of Harvard University’s David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Columbia University, Babson College and Rockefeller University. Together with his family, Mr. Cisneros established Fundación Cisneros, a philanthropic organization committed to education, culture, the environment, social services and global awareness of contemporary Latin America.

Mr. Rivera has held executive positions with companies in the Cisneros Group since 1976, and previously served as the Class V Alternate Director from 1996 until 2000 and as the Class V Director since 2000.
