NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises to launch “The Cheese”

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises announced a partnership with global video community musical.ly to develop and launch a series of new digital entertainment programs targeting Hispanic members of Generation Z, the post-millennial, predominantly bilingual, tech-native generation. The partnership will feature a variety of original shows, including “The Cheese,” an entertainment and pop culture show, and “On the Ball” (WT) a sports show focused on the world’s top soccer players. The shows will be created and executive produced by Fluency+, Telemundo’s multi-format, multi-platform production studio covering entertainment, lifestyle, politics, sports, and more.

“Musical.ly is a rapidly growing platform with a highly engaged audience,” said Peter Blacker, Executive Vice President, Digital and Emerging Business, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. “As we continue to look for opportunities to better serve the growing Latino demographic, we are excited to partner with musical.ly to produce original digital content that is fun and relevant to U.S. Hispanics and the emerging generation z – an audience that increasingly turns to digital for its news and entertainment.”

“The Cheese,” the first digital show to be launched as part of this partnership, premieres on the musical.ly app on Saturday, March 24. The eight-episode weekly show will deliver fun, insightful and relatable conversations centered around the hottest, most fascinating Hispanic and general market pop culture stories of the day. The show will be hosted by musical.ly influencer Jessica Flores and Telemundo digital host Christian Acosta. The show will consist of three main segments: “Top Three Stories of the Week,” “Rising Hispanic Stars,” and “What Would Abuela Say?” a segment where the hosts will ask “musers” (musical.ly followers) “What Would Your Grandmother Say?” about the latest hot topics.

Episodes of “The Cheese” will premiere every Saturday exclusively on the musical.ly homepage. The following day, users can access the show on Telemundo’s musical.ly page (@Telemundo) and Telemundo’s digital platforms including www.Telemundo.com and VOD. Fans can join the conversation on social media using #TheCheese.
