Telemundo 60 San Antonio / KVDA launches new Weekend Newscast

Telemundo 60 San Antonio / KVDA announced that it will launch four new half-hour weekend newscasts on Saturday, June 10.  KVDA’s weekend edition of “Noticias 60 Telemundo” will air on Saturday at 5 PM and 10 PM and on Sunday at 4:30 PM and 10 PM.  Telemundo 60’s new newscasts will feature weekend news anchor Jairo Lozano, weather anchor Jessica Montoya, sports anchor Alejandra Becerra and lead weekend reporter Genaro Tijerina. The station’s new weekend news team will deliver viewers in San Antonio an additional 120 minutes of local breaking news coverage and information each week, more than any other Spanish-language station in the market.

“Our local news expansion is a testament to the commitment we have to our viewers to better inform them by delivering best-in-class journalism when they want it and across all platforms,” said José Suárez, President and General Manager of Telemundo 60 San Antonio. “Our local audiences will be able to stay even more connected to the communities we all call home.”

Lozano’s promotion to weekend news anchor follows two years after he joined KVDA in 2015 as a reporter. Before this, he worked as a video journalist for Telemundo 40 / KTLM in McAllen and as a floor manager, publisher and digital platforms administrator for Telemundo 39 / KXTX.

“I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to connecting with our viewers every weekend to deliver local news and information that will help our audiences stay ahead of the news,” added Lozano.

Montoya is part of Telemundo 60’s “Su Canal del El Tiempo” weather team and is certified as a “weather watcher” by the National Weather Service. She joined KVDA in2014 after working for Entravision Communications for eight years.

She added, “I am proud to be part of the Telemundo 60 family and excited to take on this new role to help viewers stay informed about any weather threats so they can keep their families safe.”

Becerra will lead Telemundo 60’s weekend sports coverage and joins KVDA after working for Univisión 41 San Antonio as a sports anchor since 2014. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from University of Maryland University College. As the stations’ lead weekend reporter, Tijerina will cover the latest breaking news stories for viewers in San Antonio. He joins KVDA after working as a bilingual news reporter for Noticias 48 Univision and Fox News in McAllen, Texas since 2016.
