WAPA Television reveals programming at the 2019 Upfront Presentation in San Juan, Puerto Rico

WAPA Television celebrated its many achievements and revealed an exciting new year of programming at a glamorous 2019 upfront presentation on Thursday, December 13, 2018, where network executives, accompanied by on-air talent, announced new reality show formats, original programming, digital shows, and expanded sports offerings.

WAPA’s award-winning Noticentro—which boasts the only morning news program in Puerto Rico—and its locally produced shows will continue to headline the new programming offer. With nearly 60 hours per week of original news and entertainment programming—among them “Pégate al Mediodía”, “Viva la Tarde, “Lo Sé Todo”, “El Remix”, “Ahí Está la Verdad” and “Angelique, El Especial”—WAPA maintains its hold as the leading network and largest producer of content on the Island.

WAPA will introduce two exciting new original productions in 2019, among them “The Four”—a reality show that has revolutionized the competitive singing format, as singers compete for a chance to dethrone one another for a spot. In addition, Latin America’s number one show will make its way to Puerto Rico. Hosted by renowned Puerto Rican personalities Jaime Mayol and Ivonne Orsini, “Guerreros” (Warriors)—which will also air in the U.S. on the network’s sister cable channel WAPA America—will submit Puerto Rican competitors through a grueling series of physical and mental challenges in this can’t-miss reality competition.

WAPA also sets itself apart by its vast selection of series from across the globe. In 2019, viewers can expect new Turkish productions such as Lifeline, Our Story, “Alas Rotas” (Broken Wings), “Endless Love,” “Bitter Land,” “Broken Pieces,” as well as the long-awaited second season of “Mujer” (Woman). Viewers can also enjoy exciting novelas from Latin America, including “La Reina del Flow” (The Queen of Flow), “Paquita La del Barrio” (Paquita from the ‘Hood), and “Las Muñecas de la Mafia.”

WAPA will also premiere a variety of hit series from the U.S., among them The Good Doctor, SWAT, The Blacklist, Chicago PD, NCIS L.A., as well as major Hollywood blockbusters like Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Transformers: The Last Knight, Instructions Not Included, Moana, among many others.

In 2018, WAPA became the owner of the Miss Universe Puerto Rico franchise and took the contest to another level with the crowning of the beautiful Kiara Liz Ortega. In 2019 viewers can expect another high-quality pageant directed by former Miss Universe Denise Quiñones, which will simulcast in the U.S. on WAPA America.

Sports lovers in Puerto Rico will have more alternatives to watch their favorite sports leagues from on and off the Island. WAPA Deportes renewed its exclusive contract with MLB to broadcast the regular season, postseason and World Series games. Also, and for the first time, WAPA Deportes will air the All-Star Game, where Puerto Rican native Alex Cora will coach the American League. The highly anticipated Hall of Fame ceremony from Cooperstown will also air on the network, along with the 2019 World Baseball Classic.

In 2019 fans will have access to 70 NBA games, as well as the entire season of the male and female Puerto Rican National Basketball League. The sports network will also air the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Men’s Tournament, the Female Americup, and the first qualifying window for the Male Americup 2021.
